Del Rey first performed "Without You" (then known as "China Doll") on the first official show of the Born to Die Tour at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester on November 4, 2011. The track was written with Sacha Skarbek and produced by Emile Haynie. The first demo of the song leaked on June 7, 2012, featuring Del Rey singing over a keyboard and different lyrics in the chorus of the song. A second demo of the song surfaced later with the same vocal take as the album version over a piano instrumental, as a live studio recording.
Both demos omit the final repeat of the chorus that is present in the final cut. Now you can Play the official video or lyrics video for the song Without You included in the album Born To Die in 2011 with a musical style Pop Rock . General CommentShes got all the materialistic things and all the accomplishments she sat out to gain and achieve, but it seems pointless without him, she's crying out to him 'hello hello can you hear me?
' The reference to the china doll is her saying that shes willing to let him break her, because she knows inevitably he will, she just wants him, she doesn't care. She says 'my life is sweet like vanilla is' it seems like a metaphor for boredom, lack of excitement, a base with no real flavour. All lyrics are property and copyright of their owners. The phrase "life is beautiful" is a direct reference to the song of the same name, and is present in the chorus of "Black Beauty". I first heard this song before 4 years ago and it was my first Lana song.
Now I have almost 30 Lana Del Rey's songs in my phone and i listen those everyday. I believe this song is about a woman lusting after a man. She is willing to do anything to impress this man ("I can be your China doll, if you want to see me fall"). It is a fantasy song ("can you picture it, babe, the life we could have lived") because she knows that he does not want her. For some reason the two may never be able to be together, but nothing means anything to her without him.
During an Instagram live stream on July 27, 2017, Del Rey said that it is one of her favorite unreleased songs and she would include it on a compilation album of her favorite leaked songs she hopes to release. In this songs case, I believe she has everything she can have except the love of the man she needs love from. Despite having "money, notoriety and riviera's", all she really needs is his love and she will trade everything she has for that love. She essentially needs nothing, apart from him. General CommentYet another song devoted to her lost lover. This one may even be more beautiful than "Dark Paradise" She pretty much says she's lived her whole life already.
Her lover has passed and it seems like a promise from her to him to devote her life to him. "All my dreams and all the lights mean nothing, if I can't have you," the word have in the last line give the impression she's anticipating this in the future. Song MeaningShe would trade money, clothes, cars, the fame in general for him. She would give up her dream, all that she worked for, for him. She sings in the chorus, "Hello, Hello Can you hear me?" She wants to make sure he knows that she loves him so much that without him she'll break.
"I can be your china doll if you like to see me fall" I'm sorry but this is so toxic to break yourself for someone. Lana is the type of girl to love so deeply that she'd break herself for him. You might want to add in the "live demo"'s extra lyrics here and there with a different color. The line "your love is deadly" is thematically similar to "everybody said you're a killer" from "White Mustang".
A dramatic pop ballad, "Without You" runs for 3 minutes and 49 seconds at approximately 112 beats per minute in the key of E♭ minor. It uses the same male background vocals found in "Lolita", "Blue Jeans", "National Anthem" and "Dark Paradise", of a spoken line from a live performance of "Mary Jane" by Rick James. Structurally it follows the typical verse-chorus structure with the final chorus repeated. "Without You" (originally titled "China Doll") is a song by Lana Del Rey from her second studio album, and first major-label release, Born to Die. It serves as the first bonus track from the album.
Lyrics such as "I can be your china doll, if you want to see me fall." also display that Lana is happy to accept any form of love or attention as long as there is at least something. My InterpretationLana's songs depict her romance with past lovers and intertwine well with each other; you can discover a hidden story almost if these lyrics are read together. She says she has everything but at the same time without that someone by her side who stood with her years ago, everything simply means nothing at all. I think it's some past love of hers and now that she's famous, she'd trade it all for him because of that, because nothing means nothing unless he's involved. I had never heard Demo 1 until today, and I like it SO MUCH BETTER than the final version! It sounds so cute and young, a Lizzy song instead of a Lana one. I think it's just an honest mistake, her mixing up the words "honey" and "can you" .
It's a very sketch-like demo, the pianist messes up too earlier. ⚠️ Lana Del Rey trademark and other trademarks are property of their respective owners.
